Passers-by and staff at a nearby cafe alerted police to the incident in Castleton after hearing “the whispers of the puppy before it was too late”. It had been left in the back of a black vehicle.
Police immediately smashed the rear window to retrieve the puppy, who they said was “very lucky” to escape alive.
A Derbyshire Police spokesperson criticised the owner.
